New Zealand Hypnotherapy Federation Inc. Update As the umbrella organisation for the Hypnotherapy profession in New Zealand, one of the Federation’s objectives is to foster closer ties between the New Zealand Hypnotherapy organisations. Early 2008 saw the advent of the Federation’s Hypnotherapy Events Calendar in which organisations can list their on-going training meetings and conferences with dates, topics, venues, and contact details. This gets sent out via the Federation’s member organisations to forward to all their members and students. This has assisted the profession in spacing out meetings so they don’t clash, although this does require some flexibility from the organisations to get this accomplished. However the increase in attendance will hopefully ensure this continues. The National Hypnotherapy Conference continues to improve each year, and this year’s conference held in October was no exception. From a one day conference in 1995 it has evolved into a full weekend of on-going training featuring local and overseas speakers, and the profession’s premier event: the Hypnotherapy Profession’s Award Dinner. This year’s theme “Improving Health with Hypnosis” and the quality of the speakers saw a record number of delegates attend both days. It was the best conference yet. Organising the 2009 conference is already underway, and promises to be well worth attending. LOOKING FORWARD…. 2009 will be an exciting year for the New Zealand Hypnotherapy profession, with the upcoming National Hypnotherapy Conference in September, plus the setting of standards of competence for the New Zealand Hypnotherapists Registration Board Inc. entry criteria. As you may be aware the NZHRB is the only independent registration board for hypnotherapists in New Zealand. It does, and will continue to, liaise with other hypnotherapy organisations (E.g. NZ Hypnotherapy Federation) for items of mutual interest, while remaining totally independent of any other hypnotherapy organisation. This gives confidence to those who are looking for a registered hypnotherapist. You may be aware that the New Zealand Qualifications Authority’s National Hypnotherapy qualification will not now be available. This is because the NZQA is relinquishing all of the Natural Therapy Unit Standards the end of this month. The NZHRB has assigned its panel of assessors to determine a professional standard of competence for the registration of hypnotherapists, nation wide. This will give greater credibility to the hypnotherapists registered with the NZHRB. If you are not yet registered, you are encouraged to email info@nzhrb.co.nz to enquire how you can become a Registered Hypnotherapist. All Full/Professional members of the Federation’s member associations are eligible to become registered until 31st March 2009 - based on their current membership status. After that date the new assessment entrance criteria will apply to all new applications for registration. The NZHF and NZHRB invites all Full/Professional members of the associations to submit their applications for registration without delay, to ensure that you align yourselves with the positive direction in which the New Zealand hypnotherapy profession is moving. Also, all hypnotherapists, hypnotherapy students, and their partners and families are invited to attend a social get together organised by the NZHRB and NZHF, on Saturday 28th February 2009, to be held in South Auckland. week I have just had. I have returned to my very busy,

and 6 other amazing people in an Auckland Motel Conference Room

enveloped in Hypnotherapy. I learnt it, practised it, got practised on
and learnt some more, to have enough confidence to 'do it' for
real
with a real client by the end of the week.
The whole class being on a high having put their new learnt skills into practise under the very skilled and watchful eye of Grant. A week of a well put together package of interactive learning. Grant is a very charismatic, enthusiastic and most of all easy to understand teacher. By the middle of the first day he had us all sharing delightful 'banter like friends' and lots of laughter. The theory really does get to those 'little grey cells' and excite them to remember. Thank you Grant.

Greetings Grant, A short note to once again thank you from the bottom of my heart for your excellent course, I have now been practicing from my clinic for almost a year, and loving it ! But I have to share this with you, eight weeks ago a right sided stroke landed me in hospital for three weeks, sadly I was unable to attend your Auckland course, but to the amazement of various medical people I was out of bed on day three, dressed and helping where I could on the ward...... The neurologist looked in on me and promptly sent in other medical staff to poke, prod, and break the news to me that I would take many months to recover after rehab, and this Grant is where this account gets to the point. In your course you covered Self Hypnosis, and Thank You so much.....Self Hypnosis gave me my life back in three weeks, with visualisation, and self hypnosis at the end of a fortnight, I had taught myself to balance and walk unaided, also the speech therapist spent about five mins with me and stated, "far out ! Last week you could barely get a word out, let alone do what your doing now!" She had interrupted me helping a fellow patient to relax and visualise himself becoming more and more healthy, feeling more and more confident and competent, .....you get the picture....
Well shortly I noticed a
doctor at
my bed side looking for me, he had come to discuss the blood clot which
had caused the infarction of the right side of my brain, The poor
fellow
was looking at me rather strangely, and during the course of our
discussion,
He stated that It was impossible that here was I walking, talking and
making
sense, But Sir, said he, we are having here the scans of your
brain
and it is being showing a significant area of damage. What we are
wanting
to know, how it is that you are recovering so quickly?
Well, I said to this chap, You are telling me that I have a damaged area of my brain, because you have there a scan picture of it, but I believe Doctor that I am recovering quickly, as both you and I know that I have had a stroke, and there WAS some damage, but my sub conscious mind has not seen the scans, and I have told it that I am just fine thank you, and so I am. Just thought you might
get a kick
out of this, Grant. Thanks to you for arming me with natures best

The Times Obituary of the late Mr. Common Sense Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, as his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as: knowing when to come in out of the rain; why the early bird gets the worm; Life isn't always fair; and, maybe it was my fault. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge). His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place... Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition. Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. He declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion. Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. He took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home, and the burglar could sue you for assault. Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realise that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap and, soon after, was promptly awarded a huge settlement. Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by four stepbrothers; I Know My Rights, I Want It Now, Someone Else Is To Blame, and I'm A Victim. Not many attended his funeral because so few realised he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, stay with the majority and do nothing.
