Hi
Grant. Have just returned from Singapore where I performed at two
large Chinese New Year parties. One was in a conference room in Sun Tec
City for about 800 and then 2500 at the Raffles Ballroom at the Swiss hotel.
At the first the majority of the
audience were not English speakers which always make it difficult. With
the
assistance of a translator I got three of the six volunteers under ...
still, I only had to do 30 minutes so the client was pleased and there
was a lot of laughter.
The 2nd one was great. Actually
got 14 volunteers onstage... unusual for singapore as you well know. Three
of them were Poms and I ended up keeping 10 onstage so that was a fun 45
minute show.
Singapore was just so vibrant during
the Chinese New Year celebrations and I thoroughly enjoyed my time there.

October 23, 2007 (Chicago) — Of hospitalized
smokers who receive hypnotherapy, 50% show sustained quit rates 6 months
after discharge,
investigators reported here at CHEST
2007, the American College of Chest Physicians 73rd Annual Scientific Assembly.
This is twice the success rate of
smokers who quit "cold turkey," which is even higher than the sustained
quit rate with nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), principal investigator
Faysal M. Hasan, MD, of North Shore Medical Center in Salem, Massachusetts,
reported yesterday during a news briefing.
Dr. Hasan and colleagues studied
67 patients admitted to their institution with a cardiopulmonary diagnosis
and a willingness to stop smoking. Patients were divided into 4 groups.
The control group quit smoking without any supportive treatment, a second
group underwent hypnotherapy, a third group received NRT, and the fourth
group received both hypnotherapy and NRT.
Patients selected their own treatment
approach, which Dr. Hasan explained was strongly influenced by their previous
experiences with smoking cessation, with most patients choosing a different
method.
|
Women were more likely
to choose hypnotherapy, whereas men were more likely to choose a patch
or go cold turkey. The men were looking for the "quick fix," news panel
moderator Frank T. Leone, MD, of the University of Pennsylvania Health
System in Pittsburgh, commented.
At 26 weeks post discharge from the
hospital, 25% of the control group, 15.78% of the NRT group, and 50% of
both the hypnotherapy and
hypnotherapy-plus-NRT groups remained
smoking free.
"Adding NRT did not help" improve
efficacy of hypnotherapy, Dr. Hasan said. Success rates were higher with
a cardiac diagnosis than a pulmonary diagnosis, at 45.5% and 15.63%, respectively,
he added.
Dr. Hasan told Medscape Pulmonary
Medicine that motivation is the key to success in any treatment approach:
"Patients made their own [treatment] choice — this is important," he said.
"Smoking cessation is only going to work if the patient is motivated."
Virginia Reichert, NP, of North Shore-Long
Island Jewish Health System in Great Neck, New York, agreed. "We do anything
we can to support the patient's willpower.... We need to offer whatever
works."
"This concept of motivation is a
mystery," Dr. Hasan commented. "It may be fear based, but you also need
hope and frequent feedback.... As we say, you need the will, you need a
pill — we couldn't rhyme with patch! — and you need Dr. Phil."
Both investigators stressed that
many patients move from one addiction to another. "In general, every intervention
doubles the success rate," Dr. Hasan said.
Ms. Reichert, Dr. Hasan, and Dr.
Leone have disclosed no relevant financial relationships.

The
hypknowsis.com Affirmation Method
Affirmations are simple and powerful,
but finding the right affirmation can be difficult. This article describes
a procedure for automatically creating affirmations that will have just
the right words, and are guaranteed to align with your goals.
Preparation
Set aside some time, about fifteen
or twenty minutes.
You will need paper and something
to write with.
Spend some quiet time thinking about
yourself and your situation and what it is that you want to change about
yourself.
Write down how you feel
Then take the pen and paper and
start writing lots of short sentences starting with ‘I’. For example
‘I am…’, ‘I feel..’, ‘ I want...’, ‘I need...’, ‘I think....’ . Use
actual paper, not a word processor. The act of physically writing and forming
the shapes engages your brain differently. Write on one side of the paper
only. Just let the words flow. Do as many as you can as fast as you
can. Don’t think about the exact words, don’t agonise over whether it is
right or wrong or whether it is original or anything else. Just write.
And keep writing for about ten minutes or until nothing new is coming out.
Look over what you have written, and if anything else occurs to you, write
that down as a sentence.
Create the strips
When you are done, cut or tear the
paper into strips so that each sentence is on its own bit of paper.
Throw away any sentences that are
facts like ‘ I am five feet tall’ or ‘I need to lose weight’. Throw away
any sentences that you can’t do anything about, for example ‘I didn’t do
well at school’ or ‘I need more time‘. Only keep the ones that are about
feelings, attitudes, beliefs.
Sort the strips into piles
Now mix all the strips up and pull
them out one at a time and put them into piles that relate to the same
thing. Some strips might belong in several piles. That is OK. Write out
a copy of the original sentence and put the copies into as many piles as
needed.
Sort though each pile, there
might be lots of strips or there might be only one or two. It doesn’t matter.
There is no right number. Now get a fresh bit of paper and write a label
for each pile, and label it with what it is about. Just sit back and become
aware of any relationship between the labels. You might find you need to
rewrite the labels several times. You might want to rearrange the piles.
Separate the strips
Now, take each pile and sort the
strips into positive and negative. Notice whether any are contradictory,
they show that you have a conflict about the subject. Read each negative
strip aloud, and challenge the idea. Ask yourself, ‘How do I know this
is true?, How would I prove to someone else that this sentence is true?’
Think about the sentence, and think about what you would advise someone
else who said that, how you would get them to change, and what they would
do.
Balance all the negative strips
Match up every negative strip with
a positive strip. If there is no positive strip, then create one. Write
a sentence that is the opposite of the negative one. Say it aloud. Repeat
it and change it until it sounds just right.
Do that for each pile. You will
probably find that your attitude to each pile changes and you might need
to relabel the piles.
Write down you goals
When you have done every pile, get
some more paper and create five bigger labels. These bigger labels are
for listing your goals.
Write one of the words ‘Financial,
Health, Self Improvement, Relationships, Community’ on a label. Now spend
some time thinking about what you want for each goal, and write down some
things you will have achieved in one year, and in five years. Only write
three to five things for each goal. You can spend some deciding what you
want and you can go back and change them as many times as you want. When
you are happy that the things you have listed are what you really want,
and are possible to get, write out a clean copy of your goals.
Find where the energy is
for your goals
Now put the goal labels next to
the piles of strips, and move them around and feel what piles will help
to achieve that goal. Focus on finding the most powerful goal and pile
combination. You might have to create some more positive strips.
Get rid of the negative strips
When you have got the arrangement
the way you want, take away all the negative strips. Look at each one and
imagine how you would like to get rid of it. You can actually burn them,
or flush them down the toilet, whatever you feel is best.
Start focussing on your goals
The next step is to start getting
those goals. You are going to put those goal labels in places where you
will come upon them unexpectedly. Put one in the cutlery drawer so you
see it the next time to go to get a spoon. Put one on the bathroom mirror.
Put one on the driving seat of the car. Keep moving them around so they
pop up and make you take notice. If you go out for example, throw one on
the floor without looking, so it will surprise you when you come back.
Then pick it up and read your goals again, and ask ‘What have I done today
towards that goal?’. ‘What could I have done?’ and resolve to do it.
Start using your affirmations
What you have left is the positive
strips. These are your affirmations. By going through this process every
affirmation is linked to a goal. You need to find a way of going over these
affirmations daily. What to do is to select a few of the strips each day
and put them in your pocket, or on your desktop, and whenever you have
a moment, take one out and say your positive affirmation out loud. You
can select one when waiting for the traffic lights, or the next time you
look at the clock, or any other time. Get into the habit of pulling one
at random, saying the sentence and thinking about it leading to your goal.
The constant repetition and the focus on what you want will make it all
come true sooner than you ever dreamed possible.

Practitioner
Urgent Notice
From The New Zealand Health Charter
A Must Read for All Practitioners
One Word Could Cost you a Fortune
By now, most NZ Charter of Health
Practitioners members will have heard that two of our members have been
convicted and fined to the value of $23,400.
The starting point for this prosecution
was the use of one word on their website and a newspaper advertisement.
They informed the public that they
had a "remedy" for sale. What was meant to be an innocent announcement
turned out to be the beginning of a nightmare that was sole destroying
and very expensive.
Once the word "remedy" was red flagged,
every other word and statement on the site was scrutinised and allegations
were made in regard to the rest of the website and the newspaper advertisement.
We as practitioners tend to use the
word "remedy" to differentiate between the word "medicine" and a natural
healthcare product. Practitioners know that the word "Cure" is forbidden.
What practitioners are not aware of, is that there are at the very least
ninety words that can be presumed in law to mean "cure".
Accordingly the word "remedy" was
taken by the investigator and the Commerce Commission to mean "cure" and
therefore in law a claim had been made to cure.
There were in fact forty-three charges
placed against these practitioners, each charge built on the previous charge.
Each charge represented a maximum penalty of $60,000.
According to the Commerce Commission
report on the case released to the court the Judge noted that the defendants
provided no evidence to the Court about the efficacy of their remedies.
This is not exactly correct or at the very least debatable as the defendants
went to Court fully prepared to answer each and every charge. However,
the structure of the Court procedure and the Judges adamant direction changed
that approach.
A costly learning curve
When I went to school, in the Civics
class we learnt that we lived in a democracy and that our legal system
was such that one was innocent until proven guilty. This is not true today,
that is if it ever was true. We are also now aware that under the law of
Scotland, France, Dictatorships, Police States and Banana Republics and
in New Zealand - every one is guilty until proven innocent.
In a Gilbert and Sullivan satirical
scenario application of guilty until proven innocent could result in a
number of different courts in different locations charging a number of
different individuals for the same crime and none or a number of them able
to prove their innocence due to legal chicanery, all could be judged guilty
as charged.
In this case the defendants had to
prove their innocence for each and every charge, statement made on their
website, and newspaper advertisement; as well as the investigators taped
recording of their interview (there was no caution that they may have been
guilty of breaking the law) as well as covertly taped telephone discussion
with their receptionist with the falsehood as a fictitiously named individual
ordered a remedy..
The Judge ruled that these taped
conversations collected covertly by a government agency investigator were
legal and admissible in exactly the same way as conversations by an undercover
policeman and drug dealers is legal.
This case was scheduled for one week
so that all the evidence could be heard. But early in the case after hearing
the evidence presented by the Commerce Commission's Prosecutor the Judge
informed the defendants to enter into discussions with the prosecution
and to plead guilty to a lesser number of charges or face fines of hundreds
of thousands of dollars. I totalled the number of charges and the fines
would have been over a quarter of a million dollars as well as their own
legal costs.
Overwhelmed by the Judges manner
which had arisen before any of their defence had been heard and tested
by cross examination, and before the brief of expert witnesses for the
Court and the defendants had been placed before or viewed by the Court
or the Judge and the impossibility of defeating the meaning of the word
"remedy" accepted by the Court, the defendants capitulated and pleaded
guilty to the lesser charges.
What has been learnt from this case?
The "Charter" has always informed
practitioners to contact the "Charter" immediately if there is any hint
of a possible complaint whether from an individual or a government agency.
(this procedure was not followed in this case, which resulted in the loss
of the "Charter" insurance cover. So importantly contact the "Charter"
immediately and DO NOT TALK TO ANY INVESTIGATOR no matter how caring and
sincere they may appear.
What else has been learnt?
All of our members must review all
their advertising material, website, newspaper, newsletter, pamphlets and
possibly business cards to ensure that no claim is inadvertently made.
The plea of innocent is not acceptable to Government agencies and the Court.
What else?
There is no freedom of speech if
you are a practitioner or a member of the staff of a practitioner. A misplaced
or misconstrued word could form the basis of an investigation that not
only could cost you thousands of dollars but also your belief in common
justice. |
Hypnotist
Helps Client with New Direction in Life.
(by Aaron McLoughlin)
Why
Hypnosis? This is a time to transition and in a time of transition there
needs to be a new way of thinking. There need to be a way of thinking that
turns their mind into a powerhouse of creativity and flexibility because
any change, any move forward is a function of your thinking.
Transition Thinking is the new language
and the fuel for this new language is curiosity. It is a little known fact
that the impulse within the mind that fuels all creative acts, that taps
into the creative, rejuvenating, inspirational and resourceful tools available
within our subconscious mind is CURIOSITY. It is a little known fact that
Hypnosis and hypnotherapy is one of the most potent and powerful tools
to connect you with and to stimulate your latent genius.
It is a fact that when you are more
relaxed you connect with the deeper skills and resources within you. It
is a fact that stress will move blood from the periphery of you body and
from the creative parts of your brain to the frontal cortex, igniting the
flight or flight response.
Hypnosis is the strategy that
will enable the mind and body to relax and reconnect in times of transition.
Hypnosis I have found has the ability to reconnect people on the deepest
levels quickly and effectively.
So, about my client. Early 40’s,
successful and yet redundant. Spent the last few months going round and
round in circles wondering “what the hell do I do?” I guess he is not alone.
I taught my client how to relax
and in this relax state began to find out what does he really want. Obvious
question? No! Many people think they want a job and yet what is it that
the job will give you? Money? Yes and yet what will that give you?
FREEDOM!
For many people the desire is for
freedom, a sense that everything is working well now and that you have
control over your own life now. This is what most people want and a job
will not do that, only your belief will do that. How many people do you
know who have ‘the job’, ‘the house’, ‘the partner’ and yet no freedom?
I mean the freedom to think and to choose and to be happy, that’s freedom.
After a while my client connected
with something that he does as a hobby – surfing and immediately he is
free. Immediately he is in the zone, in control of his own moment to moment
experience and yet at the same time he is fluid, flexible and resilient.
Moment to moment making subtle adjustments, reading the environment and
the wave, constantly in rapport with himself and his nature... Suddenly
my client was aware of a set of skills, recourses and a state of mind that
had been alluding him in his day to day search for a ‘job’.
“It’s not a job I want”, he said,
“its a calling, I need to feel this feeling and follow it”.
So often we concern and afflict ourselves
with this obsession of ‘what will I do?’ when the question really is: “What
will it feel like to be doing the best I can do?”
“Life is nothing more or less than
our constant interpretation of a constant stream of suggestions”
Transition Thinking is thinking about
your experience in a new way and connecting deep down with your creative
genius. Thinking from a position of curiosity and wonder rather than buying
into the constant stream of negative suggestions from the world around
us. Interpreting the constant stream of suggestions as an opportunity
to make adjustments and to ride the wave of constant change. Hypnosis is
the tool of the past present and future that continues to connect people
with their insatiable curiosity and potential. Whether you are at the bottom
of the heap or at the top, there is always something new, there is always
an opportunity to learn and to grow.
Be curious and open your world with
hypnosis.

writing to let you know about a new and exciting hypnosis event that I
am proud to be a part of. While there are multiple hypnosis conferences
all over the world, this is an event unlike any other. Before you
worry about gas prices or airfare I have great news to share: This
conference, the Global Hypnosis eSummit, takes place in your living
room!
The
Global Hypnosis eSummit will bring quality hypnosis continuing education
to your living room March 13th, 14th and 15th, 2009 when it offers almost
100
hours of education from some of the most respected minds in the field.
University professors, doctors, respected authors, speakers, and clinicians
with an intimate knowledge of hypnosis will share their insights and experiences
with the general public as well as mingle with fellow attendees. The
Global Hypnosis eSummit is designed to have video lectures as well
as live audio, video, and text chat to maximize communication, sharing
and learning.
Here
are some of your benefits
-99
hours of hypnosis education from some of the most respected names in the
field
-Attendees can watch every lecture as
often as they like for 2 full weeks.
-Video, audio, and text chat with
speakers and attendees from all over the world at the vendor booths and
in the lounge
-98% of computers on the internet
are ready to participate, the other 2% need to install a free application
-Vendor booths with free downloads
as well as products for purchase organized by category
-One low price, no additional fees
for extra classes
-No airfare, hotel rooms, or overpriced
food
-24/7 access, learn when it fits
your schedule
-No time away from your family or
business.
-All you need is an internet connection
and a pair of speakers.
-There will be classes will be geared
to the general public as well as the experienced hypnotist
-Direct connection to the discussion
forums on HypnoThoughts.com with over 1200 topics
Worth
noting is that speakers have been listed from five continents already,
showing an unprecedented solidarity within the field of hypnosis.
Also of interest is that the Global Hypnosis eSummmit is being endorsed
by multiple international organizations and is being organized by an independent
group not affiliated with any certifying body. It is a continuing
education resource, not just another certifying organization.
No
politics, no membership dues, no hidden fees. No airfare, no hotel
room, no time away from your family. Just pure hypnosis continuing
education at your fingertips. In fact, you can watch every class
whenever you want, as often as you want, for two full weeks after the live
event is over. Finally, a conference that fits around your schedule
and your budget!
With
all the lectures and live chat options available to so many presenters
and attendees from all over the world, this could very well be the most
hypnosis information ever exchanged in a single weekend! The Global
Hypnosis eSummit promises 99 hours of hypnosis education for $99 if
you sign up before January first. After that, the price goes
up to $129—still a great bargain for all this information.
Before
I forget: We are having a friendly contest to see who can invite
the most participants so please remember to put down my name as the person
who invited you. Also, since there will be FREE prizes over
the weekend be sure to visit me at booth #106 to register for them.
Looking
forward to seeing you at the Global Hypnosis eSummit at www.HypnoSummit.com.
Warm regards,
Katherine Zimmerman, Director
