Here's The Entertainment - But
Just Don't Enjoy It!
This year was a little different. At 9am on New Years Eve day, we heard news that Sheikh Mohammed had decided that all New Year Celebrations would be cancelled because of the ongoing conflict in Gaza. We had a twelve piece showband from Canada, a twenty four piece Vegas style dance troupe from Russia, a musical group from Lebanon, a famous DJ from Italy and one of the UAE's most famous Belly Dancers… plus me. And we were only one of many large resorts with these sort of numbers of people who would not get paid if the ban went ahead….. also the massive stage with pop show sound equipment and marvellous lighting had all be set up at a cost of thousands…..a worrying day. In the end we were allowed to go ahead but I had to read something out before we started the show … I sat back stage for ten minutes to memorise it so it would appear less official than reading a written statement…. Here’s what I had to say…
WOW!! GREAT!! I loved it … not the usual thing I have to say as an MC. .. And a couple of people have asked me about my politics and did it offend me to say that … HELL NO!! It’s my job. As a compere you often have to say things that you may not always like or agree to … like “What a great performer that was”… when you know he/she was shit … or bringing on a politician you dislike but have to say nice things about… you all know how it works. So the show went ahead but the police were never far away and twice told the sound guys to turn the music down (sounds like the old codgers in a kiwi RSA) and then I introduced the Belly Dancer. Her name was Fatima and she is loved over there. Her spot was meant to be twenty minutes but after four or five minutes the police told me to take her off… I was about to ask why when the CEO of the venue just shouted “Guy, Do It Now”.. apparently you don’t ask why to the police there… you just do it. So I did. Had to grab the DJ and ask him to fill in for 15 minutes. Turns out that the Sheikh had decided to stop any Arab cultural entertainment whereas international acts could continue…. My hypno show was a riot …. When those Arabs let go … Wow!! Sadly the Lebanese group was bumped too.

And what exactly is that little voice within? Some call it the sub conscious mind, others Spirit, Soul or Higher Self, and others refer to it as that part of us that does not enter into the stream of time; that part of us that is ever present and all knowing; that part of us that is the ability to observe ourselves. For that which we observe is not who we really are – it is just part of the illusion of Self. So this little voice within is then perhaps the voice of who we really are – and therefore the key as to why we’re really here. One of the biggest misconceptions, or illusions, of all times is that we are what we see in the mirror, or the roles that we play in life. But there is a witnessing self, a part of us that is able to observe all aspects of what we do, and how we do what we do. This is the real Self. That which can be observed is not who we truly are. Hypnosis gives us a pathway to connect to this ever present, witnessing Self… that part which is all loving, all caring, forever prospering and all knowing. When we connect with this part of us that does not enter into the stream of time, we encounter a state of being that knows exactly what we are here to do and has the ability to walk the path we intended to walk through out this current incarnation. In this way the path becomes the goal as we walk it to the true discovery of who we are. Hypnosis is therefore simply a change in perspective. Most people that seek out a hypnotherapist are waking up to the notion that things in their life just aren’t adding up. “It shouldn’t be this hard.” “It should make more sense.” “I know this way of being isn’t healthy for me, yet I keep being this way.” “Nothing seems wrong, yet I’m not satisfied.” Etc., etc., etc. In other words, more and more people are becoming consciously aware that they have been living their life unconsciously and want to begin living more consciously. It’s like the young child who asked her father, “Daddy you know when you’re asleep you can wake up. Well when you’re awake, can you wake up more?” A very profound question indeed, especially coming from a 4 year old. But the answer is YES. And hypnosis helps us to wake up to ourselves by helping us turn within and connect with that ever present, all knowing part of us that does not enter into the stream to time. Those who are ready to put the work in and work on themselves can take advantage of accelerated learning time now. Now is the time for growth, as more people than ever before in the history of our planet, are waking up to higher levels of consciousness. Then
came the countdown at Midnight … Oh No You Don’t. I was not permitted to
say the words ‘Happy New Year’ and we could only do a half countdown… and
the fireworks had been cancelled. So.. at ten to midnight the Russian dance
troupe finished one of their spots, I went on and told the crowd that it
was close to midnight and the DJ played. About 8/900 guests came up to
dancefloor in front of the stage and on midnight I just yelled into the
mic 5 4 3 2 1 and then the DJ played a rock and roll song while the crowd
hugged, kissed and shook hands and said Happy New Year to each other. Once
the DJs song had ended, I intro’d the Canadian showband and that was the
end of 2008. So weird. We finished the night at exactly 2.58 am because
if we went one minute past 3am the venue would have been fined $100,000.00.
For me … a great night, a little excitement, fun meeting and working with
international acts, I got paid (well) and they have booked me for next
year… that will be year number 8. Choice eh?
