In this JULY 2011 Edition:
Grant's News & Comments
It's Official!
BIG NEWS! Hypnotes is now the most viewed page on all my websites! Without giving away commercially sensitive information, I can reveal that it has now overtaken
the previous most popular page by nearly 20% more unique visitors per
month! A big thanks to all the many subscribers, supporters and casual
visitors who have contributed towards its success.
On-Going Training - Opinion Poll
WOW!
Talk about popular! Last month's poll on the types of on-going
training that was favoured, drew more than 600 votes! That gives
me a very clear idea on what is wanted in the way of on-going training
by Hypnotherapists. These on-going
training events will assist members of the various NZ Hypnotherapy
Associations to meet the new, more stringent on-going training
declaration requirements - and of course improve their general Hypnosis
knowledge. Thanks for voting! The poll is still operational if you visit last month's HYPNOTES. (See back issues at the bottom of this page.)
Featured
Hypnotherapist: Sarah Wade
Sarah has completed both
my Modern Suggestive Hypnotherapy course and my Advanced Hypnotherapy
course - and operates a very successful practice in Auckland's North Shore. Read
about Sarah below.
The next Featured Hypnotherapists are:
- August - Dale Wedlock from Dunedin
- September - Carla van Voorst from Auckland
If you are a Hypnosis New Zealand trained Hypnotherapist who would like to book the Featured
Hypnotherapist spot
in an upcoming issue, then please contact me and organise a date.
Like all of my member/student support, it's totally FREE! At this
stage, the
Featured Hypnotherapist spot is only open to Hypnosis New Zealand
trained Hypnotherapists. In time, I will probably open it up to
Hypnosis New Zealand supporters too.
2011 NZHF Conference Details
The list of presenters is finally out! You
can read more below, download the information and registration sheets,
or email me for details. You'll need to hurry though, as it's only a couple of months
away. I'll be there and look forward to meeting up with many old
and new friends. If you're a Hypnosis New Zealand Member/Student,
please let me know if you're attending. If you have already been
presented with a gold HNZ lapel badge, please wear it - and if you
haven't, then I'll bring one as a free gift for you.
Conference Billets Offered and Required
There is a shortage of
reasonably priced hotel/motel beds in Auckland in September and
October, due to the Rugby World Cup. Unfortunately, this will
impact on accommodation for delegates to the NZHF Conference on Sepember
3rd & 4th.
So if you have a spare bed (or beds) that you would like to
offer; or, if you are visiting Auckland for the conference and require
a bed, then both myself and the NZ Hypnotherapy Federation Events Team are happy to act
as "agents" and provide details to both parties.
I have set up a "Billets Offered and Required" webpage to assist in that process, so please email or call me if you are offering or requiring bed(s).
Please let me know:
- Number of beds available/required
- Number of nights
- Male/Female
- Price/donation
Then
I can add those details to the list to facilitate matches. We've
already had our first match-ups from the page, so the system works!
Diploma of Advanced Hypnotherapy Course
A reminder that
this years only Hypnosis New Zealand
Diploma of Advanced Hypnotherapy course will be held from August 22nd -
26th in
Auckland. Please note that the date has been brought forward to ease
the travel and accommodation requirements during the RWC. This
course is especially suitable for past Hypnosis New Zealand "Modern
Suggestive Hypnotherapy" students and is also open to anyone with
outside Hypnotherapy training who can demonstrate a sound background of experience with clients; using general
Suggestive Hypnotherapy skills.
On completion of the advanced training and associated
examination, you will receive the Hypnosis New Zealand Diploma of
Advanced Hypnotherapy. Numbers are strictly limited and the course is filling fast! So for further information or to register, please check out the webpage, or email me, or call me anytime on 0800 TRANCE
Please Vote For Me!
I have been nominated as a participant in the 2011 Golden Koru -
People's Choice Awards as a Professional Speaker. How I fare in this competition, is up to
you; so please show your support by voting for me. You can do so
by clicking the Golden Koru logo (to the left)
and adding your name and comments to
my listing. You will then receive an email with a reply link to
confirm your vote has come from a legitimate email address. (Only one vote per email address is allowed.)
Voting closes on the 30th September. At that time, the top 5
finalists in each category will be given an extra week to gather as
many extra votes as possible to establish the overall winner in each
category.
Thanks, in anticipation of your support - and for the support already
shown in the many votes so far.
Positive regards, Grant.

| Featured Hypnotherapist
Sarah Wade – Shore Hypnotherapy, on Auckland’s North Shore
I spent several years enjoying my work as a reflexologist before my
thumb joints began to groan with agony and I was forced to think about
changing direction. I explored psychology & counselling
and life coaching, gaining diplomas in both, but not feeling a
satisfying passion for either. Then I discovered Grant
Boddington, enrolled on his Diploma of Hypnotherapy course and was
blown away by how easily and safely so many issues can be resolved by
hypnosis. I especially love that hypnotherapy isn’t
about taking control of my clients but about giving back control to my
clients. That makes it even more powerful really doesn’t
it? Grant’s Advanced Hypnotherapy course in 2010 gave me
even more resources and I am now suitably busy, working from my
home in Browns Bay and dealing with a wide variety of issues in clients
ranging in age from 6 to 90. I am constantly in awe of the
powerful and positive change that happens when a client and a
hypnotherapist combine forces with a mutual aim and when my clients
leave with a smile on their faces I know that I have found that passion
that I was looking for in my work.
I offer two-session motivational programmes for Weight
Management, Smoking Cessation and Confidence Building. I treat
each client as an individual and tailor make the sessions to suit their
needs, giving them written directions to any exercises I practise with
them and an audio CD to take home.
Recently I am noticing an increase in young clients wanting to sleep
more easily. Young children today seem to have such hectic
schedules of homework, sports and other extra-curricular activities and
the pressure seems to be on children as young as 7 and 8 to be the best
in everything they do. Giving children the self-hypnosis tools to
be able to ‘switch off’ at the end of the day and have a restful and
peaceful nights’ sleep will hopefully have an impact in reducing their
stress levels later in life. All my young clients really enjoy
the exercises I give them to do at home and some even enjoy making up
their own to complement mine!
We each have the necessary resources within us to enable us to change -
and we do it often. Occasionally however, our subconscious mind gets
too used to old and unwanted behaviours and we become 'set in our
ways'. It is then that we need some help to teach the subconscious mind
new patterns of positive behaviour. Hypnosis is a fast and safe
way of instigating change from within and combined with positivity and
optimism can and will produce remarkable results.

Gizer's Story About Fears
by Coach William C Smith
Grant, here's Gizer's story about fears. I designed it originally for children -
specifically for my little seven year old Niece who recently decided she was
afraid of her stuffed animals, dolls, and pictures hanging on her wall. It
mostly bothered her at night, but the dolls were a problem during the day as
well. She said they looked "creepy" and her Mother had to put them in the
garage.
After some thought, I decided to enlist my co-author, Gizer - my old dog
that died four years ago, but still helps me with these types of assignments.
The story is about when Gizer goes to the Zoo to visit his Zoo Animal Children
Friends. He finds them discussing Fears and has a talk with them. He teaches them
some techniques for looking at Fears differently.
After making it into a CD and listening to it a couple of times, I decided
I would use it with my adult clients as well. I was working with a 67 year old
lady who was afraid of small lizards. Big iguanas were OK, but small ones
frightened her.She liked the CD and said she found it helpful.
I will be sharing it with my class at the NGH Convention in August. Here's a link to my workshop at the Convention:http://www.ngh.net/conv/2011/229.pdf

Letter To All NZAPH Members
(from the new President, Meredith McCarthy)
Hi to all of my fellow NZAPH members,
I would like to say that it is an honour to be part of a profession
that is full of so many amazing people that are interested in helping
people overcome their fears and support them through the emotional
shifts in an empowering way. That is why I feel so enthusiastic about
being the current President of the NZAPH, I want to see hypnotherapists
in New Zealand become united and to be taken seriously. To
achieve this, it is important to roll out some fresh ideas that will
transform the way this organisation will support all of us.
I will be contacting you all individually to get to know what your
needs are and see how we can match them. I am currently looking at ways
that we can run many professional development days throughout New
Zealand joining, sometimes, with other organisations such as NLP,
coaching and counselling groups that have a shared interest in working
with people. I am looking to find ways of promoting our services as
hypnotherapists to communities and through the internet. I would like
people to look to hypnotherapy as one of their first options when they
are needing help to quit smoking, manage weight loss, get balance in
their lives and overcome stress and anxiety.
I would like to create a more collective voice where we all get to know
one an other and form a great network of knowledge that can be shared.
Some of you may wonder why I would like to join in on some of the
professional development days that may be run by other
organisations. My experience is that the more people that we meet
and the more opportunity that we have as hypnotherapists to talk about
what we do and how we do it, the more people gain a better
understanding of how we could be helpful to them when they have clients
that they are not sure how to work with, or feel that hypnotherapy
could add value to their clients. The more referrals you get the
stronger your reputation gets. As more people choose to share how
hypnotherapy changed their life, so we begin to educate people and, as
a profession, gain more credibility. I also believe that we can learn
to widen our tool belts and become skilled at using these tools when
needed.
Over the last couple of years there has been a drop in the economy and
I know many of you may have found it hard to run a successful
hypnotherapy business. It is therefore essential that we find
ways of supporting you as a hypnotherapists to grow your business.
Professional development days provide the opportunity to meet
with fellow therapists, to share information on how we individually run
our businesses, and how to build into a successful business. I
would also like to cover the importance of clinical supervision and, of
course, have demonstrations of hypnotherapy techniques and approaches
for specific issues.
I would like to look at getting our members to share more and write
articles, create pod-casts that can stimulate learning and
conversation. We could look at a "blog" on the Members part of our
Website, where we can seek advice, support and share experiences and
knowledge. I would like to thank Grant Boddington for doing such
a great job as through creating Hypnotes, he has offered to support our
organisation and will continue to do so by promoting hypnotherapy
events and sharing articles. So, we already have a great
resource that we can collectively add too.
I would also like to thank Claire Buckley our amazing secretary who
behind the scenes has been working tirelessly to organise the
venue, speakers, food, information packs etc at the joint conference
and making all look seamless so thank you for your amazing effort.
I would also like to thank Kevin Bateman our membership secretary. He
has quite a lot of responsibility and also sits on our examination
board. He is often the first person people deal with when they come
into our association. Kevin is passionate about working as a
hypnotherapist and runs a monthly hypnotherapy meeting in Wellington
which I, and many of my other hypnotherapists, enjoy meeting at and
discussing topics that stimulate ideas and learning. If any of you are
also interesting in running or attending a monthly meeting in your area
please email us with your interest and we will do our best to connect
you with colleagues in your area, so that this can be achieved.
I would also like to thank Dean Badcock who keeps track of out
financials every year it is one of those essential roles in any
organisation that often happens without acknowledgement, so thank
you Dean for doing a great job.
I would also like to thank all the committee members for collaborating
and a welcome to Pauline Kam, Wade Jackson, Ben Caswell, Robin Anne
Harrison to this year's committee. If any of you out there are
interested in being a part of our committee please let us know it
is a wonderful way to be part of our future. Welcome also to Terry
Keillor our new Vice President, Terry has been working updating our
website and I look forward to working with him as we move forward.
On that note I would like to end by thanking Sue Leech for all her work
and support to our organisation and show our gratitude for her
commitment to our profession. At this year's joint NZANLP and NZAPH
conference in Rotorua, Sue talked about using hypno-band which is a
great tool that can assist weight loss clients to change their
thinking, manage their weight and control their portion sizes.
I found the information very interesting and well worth
looking into so thank you for sharing your knowledge.
So I look forward to getting to knowing you all a little better, my
door is open so please feel free to connect with me any time.
Warm regards
Meredith McCarthy

- Using a generalised ‘cognitive process’, identify how the client structures their challenge and their solution;

- Wrap this up inside
hypnotic language patterns to help the client form the thoughts and
beliefs to make those suggestions become reality for the future.
