In
this November 2009 Edition:
Grant's
News & Comments.
It's been another busy month for
me already with yet another 5 Day Modern Suggestive Hypnotherapy course
completed in the 1st week of November, closely followed by a Mind Mechanics
presentation earlier this week - and still to come is the NZAPH Training
Day in Christchurch and one of my (rare nowadays) Hypnosis Stage
Shows in Waihi. Now that's a varied month!
~~~~~~~~~~
A couple of quick words regarding the
first Hypnosis New Zealand Advanced Hypnotherapy course planned for November
next year: IT'S FULL! So OK, it looks like I'll need to get
my A into G and have it ready for a July course as well. More about that
in the body of this newsletter, below. Also below, please see my 2010 training
schedule with a few confirmed dates and a couple of tentative dates.
~~~~~~~~~~
SPECIAL for readers. Thanks to a very
special letter from loyal client Fred Byron in the US, I've decided to
run a great special that is linked with my Be The Person You Want To
Be recording - now in its 8th version, since starting its days last
century on a cassette tape with a smiley face on the case! (Actually
I think Fred was one of the first buyers of the cassette version all those
years ago.) See more about the special deal below.
~~~~~~~~~~
Remember also, the NZAPH Training day
in Christchurch on November 21st. Time is short, so book your place
now for this great value training day.
~~~~~~~~~~
Please enjoy the content of this HYPNOTES
- and let me know of any news or events for the next edition. |

Testimonial
from New Hypnotherapist
Dear Grant.
After those two rather lengthy conversations
we had, I am feeling a lot more confident in my work. I set about putting
those tips you gave me on being ‘more assertive with my clients’ into practise
and sensed a shift immediately, almost as if they respected me more as
a Hypnotherapist, leaving them even more open to my positive suggestions.
And if it was taking more than one session to make the improvement they
were seeking, I used your advice on helping them to really see what had
already been achieved so far with the use of hypnosis, which worked wonderfully
for them and me, leaving both of us feeling confident with the progress
that has been made. I have also really started to understand the art of
writing good suggestions after talking to you and since reading your book,
now ensuring that all of my suggestions are positive, present and progressive.
So I am very pleased to report on
the ‘Sleep Improvement’ sessions that you helped me with when I was feeling
very frustrated with the lack of progress. “Mary" is no longer waking up
to every little noise she heard during the night and then struggling to
go back to sleep. She is no longer tossing and turning and feeling frustrated
for up to two hours when she gets into bed. She is now getting into bed
and going to sleep straight away and if she feels she might not, she listens
to my Progressive Relaxation CD and drifts off to sleep when it is finished.
"Mary" has gone from waking up every
night to go to the toilet three or four times a night and then tossing
and turning, sometimes not even going back to sleep, to going only once,
one or two nights a week, then drifting back off to sleep as soon as she
gets back into bed. She told me she is no longer feeling “stressed” at
work and that since she has been having Hypnotherapy, “work is a breeze”,
which I attribute to a good night’s sleep and the fact that she now practises
self-hypnosis daily, leaving her feeling calm, focused, and positive. Also,
after years and years of saying things like: “Oh no…I’m never going to
get to sleep now”, and “I suppose those dogs are going to bark all night,”
etc., she has realised that she has been telling herself she cannot sleep
constantly and has suffered sleeping problems because of it, so is now
working really hard on speaking more positively out loud and to herself.
And last but not least, she was so happy with herself and I was really
happy for her, she actually had a sleep in the other day! Well done
and hopefully it’s the first of many.
Also after talking to you and reading
your new book, I have finally decided on my style. You will be pleased
to know that I will be using Modern Suggestive Hypnotherapy. I will also
be offering Smoking Withdrawal Programs and Weight-Loss Programs, so that
I have the time with my clients to teach them self-hypnosis and all of
the other techniques I have learnt, so they have all the tools they need
to help them achieve their goals, and to so become the masters of their
own thoughts.
As a new hypnotherapist just starting
out, I really appreciate the fact that I can call you whenever I need advice
about anything. Knowing you are only a phone-call away if I am facing a
problem, makes me feel very safe and confident. I am so lucky to have you
as my mentor because you are always more than happy to share your knowledge
and love of Hypnosis.
Yours Sincerely,
Tania Coleman.

New
Clinic
My Name is Adrian I recently started
a career in stage hypnosis.
Now about 4 months ago a friend ask
if I could hypnotize him to quit smoking - so I did.
That's when the word started out,
since then I have hypnotized a lot of people for different reasons (like
most of us I guess) but! ...
Here is what I wanted to share. A
local hairdresser friend of a friend has a nice salon in my town, with
2 beauty rooms in back, one of them was not being used.
So on Monday she asked if I would
like to start a clinic 2 days a week. She takes the bookings for me and
I give her a % of the money I make from each client.
Well here it is today, I did my first
quit smoking in there and I really feel great about it.
So for anyone just starting out who
"CAN NOT AFFORD" a clinic, this is a really good option.

| Dear
Mr. Boddington:
Recently,
I lost my wife, Aida, after a union of 38 married years. My life,
subsequently, went into a downward spiral of disorientation: I literally
felt that I was going out of my mind. I would lose things in the
house: house keys, my wallet, even money to the tune of $200.00 American
money. To add even more disorientation into my life, at this most
vulnerable time of my mourning my wife, two of my three sons became strangers
to me and, what is more, actually accused me of having murdered my wife,
rather than attributing the cause to cancer which claimed her existence.
In my desperation, I contacted Mr. Boddington, inasmuch as I remembered
his valuable advisement to me in the past whenever I needed it the most.
Mr. Boddington was most gracious in sending me his disc, "Be The Person
You Want To Be." The visualization section of this disc really spoke
to my heart. Many of the phrases used reminded me of my wife's words
when she lived.
Inadvertently, as I listened and
followed intently the guidelines of "Be The Person You Want To Be," I tilted
my head slightly to the side and rested my earlobe on the tips of my right
index and middle fingers. Again, this was a total happenstance and
inadvertent on my part. However, to my great positive surprise, I
found that even when I was not actually listening to "Be The Person You
Want To Be," the simple act of my touching the lobe of my right ear with
my finger tips was sufficient to prompt feelings of capability, competence,
and belief in myself instantly. I deem this to be, for me, a major
thrust forward in my quest to re-achieve emotional and psychological equilibrium.
I don't know how or why this anatomical touch to my earlobe works; I just
know that it does and this touch has made all the difference in the world
to me, especially in weathering my way with equanimity through the storms
of adversity. One disc, "Be The Person You Want To Be" was the prime
catalyst in my life at this time, and, I trust, in the future.
Fred Byron.

How do we learn?
How should we teach?
How do we overcome adversity
and disability?
How should we live our lives?
These fundamental questions are at
the heart of the revolution in neuroscience, the scientific study of the
brain. We now know that the brain remains plastic for the duration of its
lifetime, physically changing in response to experience. But how does this
understanding affect how we should teach our children, manage organisations
and maintain our own wellbeing?
Mind & Its Potential is a ground-breaking
conference that brings together for the first time the best and brightest
minds from Australia and internationally to explain the new science of
the brain in a way that is interesting and useful to both professionals
and the general public.
Highlights of this extraordinary
conference include:
•The participation of His Holiness
the Dalai Lama! Witness a fascinating dialogue with acclaimed positive
psychology founder Martin Seligman, evolutionary biologist Marc Hauser
and renowned meditation teacher, author and scientist B. Alan Wallace.
•A dazzling line-up of 40 speakers
from around the world including leading UK neuroscientist Baroness Susan
Greenfield and pioneering American emotions researcher Paul Ekman.
•Ground-breaking and innovative
content on how to apply the latest cutting-edge scientific research on
the brain to education, medicine, business and your life!
•A down-to-earth, users' guide to
the brain, the mind and human nature. An inspiring presentation from Dr
Charlie Teo, one of Australia's most acclaimed neurosurgeons.
•Participation by some of Australia's
leading journalists and TV and radio presenters. Enjoy panels with expert
facilitation from Richard Fidler, Sophie Scott, Natasha Mitchell, Maryanne
Demasi, Alan Saunders, and Julie McCrossin.

Can You Make
Me Cluck Like a Chicken?
The tale of a Hypnotherapist
BY ANDREW KILLICK (A very tall
Hypnotherapist tells an even taller tale! GB)
The top of King Street was totally
empty of shops that sold anything good. A second hand shop called
"Wot u Want", owned by Penny Jones, a chain smoking widow of fifty. "Berty’s
Cycles and Mowers" next to her. Bought six months ago by Bryce London from
Lance Littlefair, that sold neither cycles nor mowers, just outdoor furniture
made from old fence posts and Macrocarpa slabs.
There was also a car yard that had
a reputation for selling lemons, quite literally lemons, Victor Yakka one
of the partners in the yard grew them organically and sold them in muslin
bags at the gate. No one was quite sure where he came from; his olive skin
and pale green eyes gave him the appearance of a bit of a foreign mongrel.
The story was he came from somewhere with a mother from somewhere and a
father from somewhere else. That was it. Victor was the last person you
would think would be the part owner of Taylor & Yakka Quality Used
Cars, Prices U can afford, Lemons $4.00 a bag. But there he was, July 26
2009, polishing a 1998 imported Mazda 323 with the sleeve of his homespun
jersey.
It was nearly dark and the street
light had just come on and then gone off again as it always did, causing
Victor to look up from his work. A car pulled up across the street and
parked outside St Mathew’s Presbyterian Church. Barry Clintoff climbed
out and seeing Victor gave a half-hearted wave. Victor gave a wholehearted
wave back with a hand covered in jersey. “See you in a minute.” He yelled
across the street.
“Ah God.” Thought Barry. “Ok” he
said with one of his brightest smiles.
Barry was a dentist. There were two
in town, a Russian one, the one that all of the immigrants went to, like
Victor. The other was Barry.
Barry was all teeth, a testament
to his profession. Many people joked that when he smiled they were afraid
that light aircraft might mistake it for the landing zone. Barry was also
a self trained hypnotherapist with a clinic, and it was there, behind the
church, he was heading. Barry fumbled for the keys in his black stone wash
jeans. He could barely get his hand into his pocket. The pants were very
tight. The vanity of Barry liked the fact it left a discernible bulge that
he thought all of the ladies would appreciate. In truth he looked more
like an over inflated lilo.
Managing finally to get into the
clinic and get the lights on (and heaters) Barry looked around. The first
thing that hit him, apart from the book case that fell every time someone
closed the door, was the smell. It was the smell of the Chinese take away
next door, cigarettes, sweet and sour and sweat. It was the kind of smell
that left a slight tingle to the nose. Sighing ,Barry started picking up
the books and waited for Victor. It was 6:45 when the Victor walked in.
It’s not easy to score yourself a
“life partner” when you are still living with your Mother and you’ve just
turned thirty five, but the eternal optimism of Victor and Victoria Yakka
never dampened their spirit. It would happen someday. The seemingly insurmountable
odds facing the twins was considerable. Forget the fact of living with
your Mother who after a short bout of mental illness called her twins Victor
and Victoria and then promptly shortened both names to Vic. That was the
least of their problems. No, the politically incorrect term was they were
ugly, they had faces only their mother could love and even then she wasn’t
sure.
Vic had eyes that were just a little
too close together and just a little too small, bluish and sat on an extraordinarily
large head. The little red ski jump nose sat squarely in the centre of
his face giving the impression of a target and the tiny mouth only just
covered the top set of large yellow teeth. This whole thing was ringed
with short black curly hair that went down his neck and probably his back.
Vic, Vic’s sister, also had eyes
that were just a little too close together and just a little too small,
bluish and sat on an extraordinarily large head. The little red ski jump
nose sat squarely in the centre of her face giving the impression of a
target and the tiny mouth only just covered the top set of large yellow
teeth. This whole thing was ringed with long black curly hair that went
down her back.
They sat in their usual chairs in
the clinic. Barry just sat and looked at Victor. No one said a word. The
clock on the wall ticked and another book fell off the shelf.
“I need help.” Said Vic eventually.
“What is it today?”
“It’s Wobbly Linda. I think she
fancies me. What do I do next? Can you hypnotise me to be more attractive
to her?”
“Sure. I’ll get my book.” Barry
reached down to the floor where Grant Boddingtons book had fallen. Barry’s
bible. “I must read this sometime.” Thought Barry.
He turned to the index looking for
anything that might help. He skipped part one and two and went straight
for the extras. Crap, nothing.
“Now Vic as I have already told
you, hypnotism is like magic. I can make you do anything I want and tonight
I want you to look better.”
“But I’m perfectly happy with the
way I look. I think it’s just my hair that puts people off.”
Barry
wasn’t listening. All he could think of was the $120 he was going to get
at the end of the session and maybe there would be time to get to the TAB.
He took out his pocket watch and started dangling it in front of Vic. After
about ten minutes of dangling and Vic looking around the room, Barry had
a thought.
“There we go. All done.”
“But you didn’t do anything.”
“Ah you just don’t remember.”
“But it’s only 7:10.”
“Time can be distorted sometimes
when you are under my spell. You have the money?”
On the 25th of November that same
year Victor and Wobbly Linda didn’t get married.
