In this NOVEMBER 2010 Edition:
Grant's News & Comments.

Welcome and thanks for reading this November 2010 edition of HYPNOTES. Thanks for everyone's contributions this month.

It was sad to hear about the passing of The Great Franquin - as reported below by Daryl Wilkinson in Australia. He was certainly one of the Hypnosis entertainment pioneers and one we owe a great deal of thanks to.

Who's on SKYPE? It's a great way to stay in touch with your friends and Hypnosis colleagues around the world. Check the top centre of this newsletter to see if I'm online and say hi sometime.

There are lots of training options featuring in this edition - including the new 2011 dates and fees for the Hypnosis New Zealand courses and the 2011 NZAPH conference. (Please note that due to demand, there have been some changes to the 2011 dates for the 5 day courses for
Modern Suggestive Hypnotherapy and Advanced Hypnotherapy training.)

FranquinThe Passing of The Great Franquin
1914 - 2010
(From Daryl Wilkinson)

I note the recent passing of  "The Great Franquin" at 96 years of age. Francis Pat Quinn, the NZ born showman / hypnotist  was possibly the first hypnotist to popularise stage hypnosis in Australia in the 1950's. His hypnosis shows filled large theaters all over Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Hawaii. He made a bucket of money, retired from show biz and hypnosis in the 1960's and is reported to have "spent his final decades enjoying the fruits of his property investments".

The Great Franquin provided me with my first experience of hypnosis as a 10 year old being taken to one of his shows by my mother and pushed on stage (by her) for his suggestibility test. Not exactly knowing what it was all about I was, of course, very resistant and my hands didn't stick together like others on the stage. I remember his words to me, booming through the PA speakers, as he indicated that I should return to my seat in the audience. "Some people just won't listen!"  About six years later I was taken to a clinical hypnotherapist and did listen and was cured of asthma.

What ever one might think about stage hypnotists, I know that without the likes of Franquin and Lee Saxon (also a clinical hypnotherapist) who also did stage shows in those days I wouldn't be doing what I do now and I may still be an asthmatic.

NZAPHCall for Presenters: Joint NZAPH NZANLP Conference

 Theme: “Expand Your Horizons”

June 17th to 19th, 2011. Kingsgate Hotel, Rotorua

The last Joint Conference that we held in 2009 was extremely well supported, and feedback that we have had since then has encouraged us to hold another Joint Conference in 2011.

The format of the Conference next year will be similar to the last Joint Conference.  We will have "welcome drinks" for those that arrive on the Friday evening.  The conference will be formally opened on Saturday, by the Joint Presidents, followed by the Keynote Speaker (all attendees) after which we will be running two rooms, giving delegates a choice of presentation.  We have negotiated really good rates for delegates wishing to stay at the Kingsgate.

On Sunday, we are having longer sessions – two workshops are booked for the morning, giving delegates a choice of presenters.  Then in the afternoon we are aiming to have two more workshops, perhaps two hours long.  The day will end with "Questions to the Panel" (all those presenters that have opted to stay) and then closing by the Joint Presidents.

The theme of the conference is “Expand Your Horizons”, encouraging all attendees to expand their map of the world, and their perceptions and to really enjoy and take on board the wonderful learnings and new skills and resources that they will gather over the two days.  Obviously, the conference will be really valuable in supporting and developing the membership of both associations, in networking and supporting members in developing their business and their skills.

We are asking NLP Master Practitioners and Trainers and Professional Members of the NZAPH to please give some thought as to how they can share skills and resources by taking a session, or a workshop.  Session times will be 90 minutes with workshops on the Sunday afternoon being 2 hours.   Ideally, sessions/workshops will be both interactive with the attendees and educational, perhaps containing a process or information which is, of course, "Expanding their Horizons"!

We are delighted to be able to welcome Merv Edmunds from Australia as our Keynote Speaker.  Merv will also be holding a workshop on Sunday morning on Human Givens.  The other Sunday morning workshop will be run by Mark Klassen on Spiral Dynamics.

We will be paying the accommodation and food costs of the presenters, and of course, presenters won’t need to pay entry fee!

Would those willing to present please indicate their interest to Conference Co-ordinator Claire Buckley at clairefg@gmail.com.

Message:
Hello, How are you and how has your week been? Wonderful I guess. I am Fredrick Pawlak a businessman and a single parent working temporarily in Singapore. I was searching for a Hypnotherapist in New Zealand so I came across your advert on the Web. Our Family doctor who is presently on a Vacation noticed that My 19 years Old Son has heightened fears about people, objects or situations, which he cannot face. Moreso, He continually feels low, most often with many complicated symptoms like poor sleep, negativity, deep anger, self-depression. So after a Phone Conversation, He suggested that My son needs to visit a Therapist. So I intend sending Him over to come and spend some time in New Zealand as soon as possible that will be more like an excursion. But during the time in which He will be spending over there which will be most probably for 4 weeks or more, I will want Him to Visit a Therapist. He speaks and understands English fluently so I believe it would be of a great help to you. Therefore, I want to know if you can be of any help to Us. Please specify the following Information: 1. Your Theraphy Approaches. 2. Your Consultation charges / Durations. These information are needed so that I would decide how many times in a week he would come for Consultations. Payment would be made in advance before my son's arrival because I wish to send him over there in 2 to 3 weeks time from now. I anticipate your swift response. Do have a great day ahead and my humble regards to you and your loved ones. Greetings, Fredrick Pawlak fredpawlak@yahoo.co.uk +447024099618
