In
this October 2009 Edition:
Grant's
News, Comments & Opinions.
Yes I know, HYPNOTES is a little
later this month - as well as being somewhat briefer ...... thanks mainly
to a dose of the dreaded pork flu! However, my voice is back, the
cough has gone and I've just renewed another year of my gym membership!
So I'm fighting fit for the challenges ahead, as the world climbs out of
recession
(what recession?) and back into another boom time! Yahoo!!!
~~~~~~~~~~
Top of my list recently, has been organising
an extra 5 Day Practical Hypnotherapy Course for this year. It's
confirmed for November 2nd - 6th and being well supported. The September
course was supposed to be the last for this year, but this extra November
one will definitely be the last now, until February 2010.
There are four more 5 Day Diploma courses planned for 2010 and the exciting
news is that there is a brand new 5 Day Advanced Diploma
course happening late next year too! Please let me know if you'd like to
attend that, as it's half full already!
~~~~~~~~~~
Remember also, for those in the South
Island who find it difficult and/or expensive to attend North Island trainings,
the NZAPH is holding another South Island Training Day in Christchurch
on November 21st. You can read more details about that generous gesture
from NZ's largest Hypnotherapy Association, further down this newsletter.
I hope to meet up with some of you there - for a great day of Hypnotherapy.
~~~~~~~~~~
There have been some changes to free
listings on my NZ websites over the last couple of weeks. In particular,
there are some new listing rules for my Directory
of NZ Hypnotherapists - especially to the "Support" rule:
"All Hypnotherapists
wishing to be listed for free on this directory must exhibit positivity,
support and professionalism towards Hypnotherapy in general (and also of
course towards Hypnosis New Zealand)."
I've been supporting and advertising
dozens of Hypnotherapists and their services for many years, for free,
asking for little in return. So from now onwards, I'm focusing more
on helping only those who support me and my Hypnosis & Hypnotherapy
ventures. So if you'd like your existing listing updated or added to by
way of text, photo, email and/or website link; or if you'd like to be listed
there for free, please let me know. (Please make certain to read the
listing
rules first.)
~~~~~~~~~~
Please enjoy the content of this HYPNOTES
- and let me know of any news or events for the November edition. |

Following
my Instinct
by Maureen
Gilligan
Dip. Clin.
Hyp.
Clinical Hypnotherapist
Two interesting
case studies where I followed my instincts and treated the two clients
below with pure suggestive therapy, with a successful result in both cases.
Rather than, regression to ISE, focusing on depressive symptoms.
CASE
NO 1:
The client
who came to clinic for help with insomnia. The client had, many months
previously consulted (successfully) with Psychologist for IBS, and General
Anxiety Disorder, but her sleeping difficulty had been left unresolved.
Client stated that she often woke during the night and found it difficult
to go back to sleep.
On talking
with the client at the initial consultation my instinct was to go purely
with suggestive therapy which I did. At the second follow up visit
the client reported a 50% increase in her ability to go back to sleep far
more easily and quickly than she had previously been able to do before
hypnotherapy.
I continued
with suggestive therapy at the second visit, and on client’s return for
third follow up visit, three weeks later I expected some relapse because
ISE had NOT been identified or treated. However client reported a
95% improvement and was delighted with the result, as was her GP who now
is referring clients to me.
Her sleeping
patterns continue, some six months later to have stabilised, and she is
enjoying the benefits of better sleep, she reports more energy and somehow
in her words “I can’t describe it but my whole body feels so much better”.

CASE
NO 2:
A female client
who came into clinic because she had a feeling of choking in her throat
each night as she drifted off to sleep, and this was causing her much distress.
Quite some time (more so than usual) was taken gaining history/background
of client. There had been a history of sexual abuse from the age of eight
years, resulting in lack of self esteem, and difficulties in inter personal
relationships and intimacy.
Again I followed
my instinct and diverted from the usual procedure I use with clients, and
direct suggestive therapy was given on first consultation.
At second follow up consultation, client reported the choking feeling in
her throat had gone completely and her partner had reported she was sleeping
more restfully, and client herself was feeling the benefits of a good night’s
sleep without fear of the choking sensation.
At the third
follow up visit client reported some restlessness had returned, at which
stage I felt alarmed, and fully intended then to regress client to ISE,
however upon further discussion it was revealed that the restlessness was
resulting from partner reading until late at night and client was unable
to speak up for herself and tell him to turn out the light!!
A course of
assertiveness training has followed and client is sleeping marvellously
well, and is enjoying her new found ‘assertive self”, after 42 years.
This change has successfully maintained for three months. |
PLEASE NOTE:I
followed my instinct as I was able to contact client each day to check
on their well being. I would never divert from usual procedure for
therapy e.g. phobias, e.g. (fear of flying) or where the client could be
in any way placed in danger to their health or well being.

Kiwi
Hypnotist Honoured By Aussies
It’s not often we get Aussies honouring
Kiwis, and a chance to brag about it. Most of the time you’d think New
Zealand didn’t exist in their world! However, Roger Saxelby, Principal
of Alpha Hypnosis Training and a pioneer of hypnotherapy training in New
Zealand, was honoured by the Australian Hypnotherapists Association (AHA)
at their recent 60th Anniversary International Conference in Sydney.
The special Appreciation Award (the
first granted) was awarded to Roger in recognition of his commitment and
dedication to the advancement of the profession over the past 29 years.
The special award was given during a dinner cruise and awards presentation
on Sydney harbour. Roger was one of 15 hypnotherapists from NZ who attended
the conference.
The 2009 acknowledgement came after
an amazing year (2008) for Roger, when he received three unexpected awards.
He was awarded the Merv Holster Award, the highest hypnotherapy award given
in New Zealand. Also, although not previously a member, Roger was awarded
Life Membership by the AHA, and inducted into their “Hall of Fame”. An
honour only previously given to seven other highly regarded hypnotherapists.
As one of the most experienced hypnotherapists
in New Zealand, Roger continues to remain at the fore-front of the hypnotherapy
profession here. He is one of the Panel of Assessors currently setting
the entry criteria for the New Zealand Hypnotherapists Registration Board,
the only independent board in New Zealand. And, as principal of Alpha Hypnosis
Training he is committed to maintaining high standards for quality hypnotherapy
training. |
As a hypnotherapist, it is always
a pleasure to learn from some of the greats in our field. Dr. Stephen Gilligan
has been honoured by the Milton Erickson Foundation by receiving the rarely
given Lifetime Achievement Award in honour of his many contributions. Steve
studied directly with Dr. Milton H. Erickson for many years and is known
widely for his neo-Ericksonian approach which incorporates his own work
on self-relations.
We are pleased to announce
Trance Camp 2010 being held in Sydney in April 2010.
Trance Camp is open to anyone seriously
interested in generative personal change and altered states of consciousness.
This one or two week journey into the self is an experiential community
for learning and experiencing trance while incorporating other consciousness-enhancing
tools into practice. During Trance Camp, you will experience and learn
a variety of skills allowing a new connection to self and personal transformation.
Many participants return to Trance Camp year after year to experience not
only profound trance, but Steve himself. This is a must-be-at workshop
for all hypnotherapists in 2010.
